DE PA IS BACK – HURRAY!

Huh! We hear De Pa is back in Freetown after that long and exhausting tour of the Eastern Region. Welcome back sir. So how did it go? We have seen some pictures on facebook and in some of our newspapers. We suppose you are used to being told how great and omniscient a leader you are. Every leader likes to hear that. Why should you be different?

De Pa, we just want to report very quickly that just before you left, things went very crazy in Freetown. Petrol queues appeared on your streets again, water supply became completely non-existent and electricity became and probably still is so epileptic that we are beginning to think about the last days of Tejan Kabbah. As a man who cares so much about his place in history, will De Pa please ask the necessary questions once again to restore these vital services to some acceptable level?

You know sir; we are also getting this small feeling about your campaign looking every inch like Solomon Berewa’s of 2007.

  1. Large number of cars and public servants, not connected to your work or campaign are always in your entourage with all the consequences for the taxpayer.
  2. You are travelling as extensively across the country as Solomon Berewa, despite your incumbency.
  3. Day in day out, we hear about the cash you spray around. Some of those reports have been denied in the same way Berewa denied giving out ten thousand leones and a campaign T-shirt to all his guests.

On electricity, why not bring back, the bearded Professor because since this British- accented private sector technocrat took over, blackout has spread to all corners of the city. Parliament has even summoned him to ask questions – just a humble suggestion.

Welcome again anyway. We love you sir.

OSUOFIA IN LONDON AT LAST

Osuofia of GREEN HOUSE finally arrived in London during the last week to much acclaim by his supporters. We have seen pictures of Osuofia attending parties and pressing the flesh. Please make the best of it. Only ten days ago many people gave you no chance of making it through the strict visa system at the British High Commission. Could you please tell us how you did it? Who gave you ‘supporting documents’? Did you attend an interview in person? OK you have visited London, so what?

Is Abass Bundu part of your delegation? I suppose not because of the passport case. Osuofia should now be looking to jump the other hurdle – visit Obama land and end all speculation about your alleged unworthiness to go there.

It’s not a bad idea to visit those countries and raise cash. However the real work is in those deprived corners of Mama Salone that need hope; not in Reading or the London borough of Southwark. For now however, we wish OSUUOFIA all the best in London.

SLBC WITHOUT A GENERATOR = totally disrupted transmission

We suspect many viewers have not taken notice of what is happening at the so-called National Broadcaster in terms of program transmission. Please at this moment we are not talking about the quality of the program content – we have a lot of concerns around that too. But we are prepared to give the new producers time to grow eventhough we feel they shouldn’t be doing practical exercises on the air.

It sounds a little strange, doesn’t it, that the SLBC has no standby generator as we speak. The truth is, electricity supply increased significantly in the last few years, despite the fact that blackout has returned to many parts of Freetown in a frightening way recently. Many people and institutions were sensible enough to hold on to their KABBAH TIGERS not allowing themselves to be swept away by the euphoria that followed AFSATU KABBAH’S proclamation that the Tiger’s days were over in Sierra Leone.

How can you run an institution like the SLBC in Sierra Leone without a standby generator? Now we know the reason why programs end abruptly or are not broadcast at all. This incompetence is beginning to stink, believe me...and look at what KPMG is telling us about the place. Sorry, they say the KPMG document is not for public consumption. Now we know why program content at SLBC is so wata wass. Were the PENTAGON PAPERS for public consumption? These guys need a real lesson in investigative public interest journalism.

We have documents to prove that somebody has just passed the insolvent SLBC a bill for ONE BILLION LEONES. Did I hear you ask ow den get dis paper yar again? Investigative Journalism – penetrating the closed ranks of vested interests to free imprisoned information in the interest of our people. Give us a few weeks to complete our analysis.

METEOROLOGY DEPT. O YEA!

So somebody read our twitter column the other day. We ask because we have seen some attempts being made to give the meteorology department building a facelift. We applaud the head of that forgotten department for at least doing what he is doing now.

We have some concerns though: why give it a yellow paint? We were hoping you will use a nice shade of grey. It’s not too late, think about that. Also, we had hoped you will start with the roof. As you probably know it will surely not survive the heavy wind and rain we’ve witnessed in the last few days. What’s the point of painting a building in such bright colours only for rain to pour through the leaky roof and damage the building?

The meteorology department is very important. We think the long-suffering staff do not deserve the treatment they are getting, at least when compared to other nondescript institutions like...OK we will hold it there for now.

SLFA’S ESTABLISHMENT CANDIDATE NAMED

There’s no doubt that Isha Johansen is a fantastic, result-oriented person. She could be a good FA president judging from what we know about her and her premier league club. But let’s not hide this, the fact that she is now very much the old establishment’s own candidate, puts a Public Relations hurdle in her way. She has a mountain to climb because people are just fed up with any vestige of Nahim Khadi staying on after July. How come the whole secretariat went on holiday yesterday because one of the many candidates was launching her campaign? Some of the big boys in the FA were seen on the high table. Come on Isha; let’s be clear who’s behind your campaign please. Isn’t your candidature part of a stop-Rodney Michael-at –all-cost project?

SALONE BOXERS SUFFER BADLY IN MOROCCO

So none of our boxers will make it to the OLYMPICS in Good Old London this year? That’s serious eh? Not even one? Come on! According to media reports, they were both beaten with little difficult by very powerful guys. Sorry friends, why did you even bother to enter the competition? We all know you guys were not physically and mentally ready to fight at that level. At Politico we don’t like hiding things, pretending they’re fine.

We feel sorry for you boxers, Sierra Leone cares only about football. Football gets money from FIFA, they government puts money into the game all the time but none in other sports like Boxing and Volley ball. We know the thrill of London is too much to ignore. Let’s face it: the lessons of Morocco serve only to remind us of the old adage that Rome was not built in a day.

Since guys like Ben Sesay and Peter Moseray left this place, we have not moved a single step in boxing. Our fighters were lucky not have been paired with the NIGERIAN NIGHTMARE or a modern day AZUMA NELSON.

ERNEST BAI KOROMA WARRIORS WIN IN FREETOWN

The Under 20 side of Sierra Leone defeated their Chadian counterparts in Freetown on Sunday. The team, christened Ernest Bai Koroma Warriors by Pope John Paul came alive in the last twenty minutes, equalized and scored once more to put the game beyond doubt. But it was the ministry of sports that organized the game – why? Where is the Football Association? I saw all the ministry staff who attended the gates dancing with the minister after the match. That was good but the FA was completely missing in action. Hey guys! You were elected to do the job, how come a policy maker is now in charge? We can wait for a truly new FA to take over Sierra Leone football.
