Seventeen Class ‘A’ referees who represent Sierra Leone in officiating FIFA and CAF international matches are taking part in a 5-day refresher course at the Sierra Leone Football Association Headquarters in Freetown.
According to the Chairman of the referees Committee Sam Kamara, the course is divided into two categories. The theoretical aspect he said will carry 40% with practical taking 60% of the grade. He called on his colleagues to do their best because their performance on the programme would “determine your international carrier.”
Course expert Joseph Wellington from Ghana told Politico news that he wantsto see Sierra Leonean referees officiating in both World Cup and Nations Cup qualifying and final matches after this refresher course “but football fans and officials should be patient with referees, as they too are human beings who are liable to make mistakes...” he said.
