19 Under 17 teams from both Western Urban and Rural Districts have qualified for the Western Area Airtel Rising Stars Competition. Twelve teams, both boys and girls will participate in this year’s tournament.
The Western Area ARS championship will officially kick off on Wednesday June 27th 2012 in Freetown. The regional tournament will be organized by the Implementing Agency of the tournament, Medium Hypes.
The tournament will continue in the other regions with Makeni being the hosting venue for the national finals.
The 19 teams came from the preliminary qualifying stage which was organized by the Western Area Football Association [WAFA].
Speaking to Politico sports, the Ag. General Secretary of WAFA Kasho J Holland Cole said, organizing the preliminary qualification was daunting and painstaking, but “we were able to get the best teams out of the rest…I have confidence in all the nineteen teams” he stated.
Eighty one teams drawn from both Western Urban and Western Rural District participated in the preliminary qualification round.
