SMHL Signs Mining Lease Agreement

At a ceremony held at the Ministry of Mines & Mineral Resources, Sierra Minerals Holding Limited (SMHL) recently signed their updated Mining Lease Agreement (MLA) with the Government of Sierra Leone. The updated MLA brings SMHL up to date with the latest legislation in the mining and minerals field in Sierra Leone.

During the meeting the Minister highlighted that the signing ceremony is a clear indication of the government’s support for the business sector, stressing the need for SMHL’s cooperation in meeting its corporate social responsibilities.

On behalf of SMHL Mr. Cilianu thanked the Minister and gave his utmost assurance that SMHL will continue to be a good corporate citizen.

Sierra Minerals, a part of the international industrial group Vimetco N.V., operates  the only bauxite mine in Sierra Leone and is the second largest mining employer in the country. Bauxite is an aluminium ore and is the main source of aluminium. Vimetco is a producer of primary and processed aluminium products and has major production assets in China and Romania, as well as Sierra Leone.
