People's Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) has dismissed a recent ruling against the party by the Appeals Court in Freetown, overturning a decision it earlier upheld to withdraw an injunction preventing the party from holding its convention.
Head of media for the party, Raymond Bamidele Thompson said the Court’s ruling was insignificant because “members of the party had resolved their differences and successfully held their convention”.
He noted that the party was now united and ready to contest the 2012 multi-tier elections with Charles Francis Margai as its leader and presidential candidate.
The national publicity secretary, Muniru Koroma, who was one of the plaintiffs in the matter, also confirmed to Politico that PMDC had withdrawn the matter from court before their party’s convention in Freetown.
Koroma said he was surprised to have learnt that the Appeals Court had upheld the ruling of the Lower Court that had filed an injunction on the PMDC Convention.
“We took the matter to court when we had a bone of contention with our leader. But if we resolve it amicably and ask for withdrawal, we see no reason for the Appeals’ Court to uphold the ruling of the Lower Court”, said Muniru.
Doctor Soccoh Kabia, who is a founding member of PMDC and minister of marine resources in the government, had differences with Charles Margai.
He said despite the recent position of the Appeals Court, they had settled their internal differences and were now forging ahead as a united political party.
Dr Soccoh Kabia, Muniru Koroma and Steven Ngauja dragged PMDC to court following some internal differences within the party.
