Head of media of the People's Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC), Raymond Bamidele-Thompson has described the resignation from the party of Dr. Soccoh Kabia as “insignificant” to the PMDC.

Dr. Kabia, a founding member of the PMDC and who has served the current APC government in three different ministerial positions after he was recommended by the PMDC in 2007, announced this week that he was no longer a member of the party.

Bamidele-Thompson further dismissed Dr. Soccoh Kabia referring to him as “a deadwood” who was not relevant in their party. He said his resignation from the party would not in any way affect them, noting that Dr Kabia had been supportive of President Koroma even before his resignation.

The PMDC media chief accused Dr. Kabia of being “unpatriotic” and “an opportunist” , adding that they brought him into the political limelight.

In his reaction, Dr. Kabia told Politico yesterday that the PMDC and its head of media had right to their opinions, noting that “I wouldn’t want to be abusive like he had. But what I would say is that the direction the PMDC is going right now is not good for the party and the country.”

He said he had never joined the APC but resigned to support President Ernest Bai Koroma whom he referred to as “a visionary leader that deserves a second term or more than that in office”.

He said President Koroma had brought about change and was committed to developing the country.
