A group of indigenes of the Fourah Bay community in Freetown living in the United States have condemned the stabbing to death of opposition supporter, Abdul Rahman Wright.
In a press release signed by their chairman Alusaine Deen, The Fourah Bay Foundation USA (FBF USA) in Western Sierra Leone say they were “deeply shocked to learn of the tragic killing of 22-year-old Abdul Rahman Wright of Argyle Street, Fourah Bay, in Freetown, on Monday, October 22, 2012, in what appeared to be a senseless act of politically charged violence”.
The organisation “vehemently deplores and condemns such a cowardly act of brutality on an innocent young man. We believe that no person or persons, regardless of their ethnic identity or whatever political party they choose to identify with, should be subjected to such a heinous act of savagery.”
They say there can be no justification for the killing, adding that all Sierra Leoneans “have a right to exercise their right to associate with any political party of their choice”.
They call on “the government of President Ernest Koroma to condemn, publicly, the killing of Abdul Rahman Wright, and also ensure that the culprit is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, while taking all necessary measures to ensure that the right and liberty of Sierra Leoneans are protected as provided for under the Constitution of Sierra Leone”.
The group vows to not rest “until there is nothing less than absolute justice for Abdul Rahman Wright”. They also call on all political parties to control their supporters to ensure they renounce violence, and appeal to members of the Fourah Bay community to exercise patience especially in the current situation and be law-abiding.
