Fresh from his
re-election, President Ernest Bai Koroma has asked all his ministers
and deputy ministers to stay in post until the parliament convenes
and new appointees go through ratification.
According to a
press statement from the Office of the President, the move is to
“ensure continuity in governance and a smooth transition between
the old administration and the new”.
The statement
urges all that “the time for politics is over” and calls on civil
servants to report for normal duty and carry out such with “loyalty
and impartiality”.
The president
thanked the security forces for having “maintained law and order”
throughout the election process and called on the police to ensure
the safety and security of all, adding that “any breach of the law
should be firmly and swiftly” dealt with.
“Supporters
of political parties should refrain from making provocative
statements, drawing or printing caricatures or singing offensive
songs that can only create further division between opponents”.
