By Alhaji Komba Three times champions of the popular Kroo-bay league, Giants of Bay, have been crowned yet again as champions of the 2012 inter- community football league after defeating community rivals Jamaica City 1-O. Giants of Bay went into the final as the favorites after defeating Leicester over two legs. Midfield anchor for Giants of Bay, Alie Levis Kamara who was named the best player of the tournament, dictated the pace of the midfield for his side throughout the match, until one of his passes was converted into a goal by Mohamed Kamara. “We came for it, we saw it, and we have conquered it”, Levis Kamara stated after the match. He also told Politico sports that he hates losing a battle which was why he “sacrificed himself to give his side the victory…I am happy that I have been awarded the best player of this year’s tournament with both home and foreign based players playing for their respective teams”, Kamara said. Presenting the trophy to Giants of Bay, the Chairman of the Western Area Football Association Abdul Kainaseu said, he was pleased with the performance of the two teams and praised them for their “brilliant” performance in winning the championship. The Chairman also told Jamaica City that they should not see their defeat as a source of discouragement but that they should prepare for next year’s tournament.
Giants of Bay received Le 2.5 million Leones plus a trophy while runners up Jamaica took home Le 1.5 Leone million plus a trophy.
Sixteen teams participated in this year’s tournament which was jointly organized by the Kroo Town Amateur Football Association and the Kroo Bay Football Association.
