The Deputy Secretary General of the National Grand Coalition (NGC) party, Alhaji K. Tarawallie popularly called ‘Laj-K’ has expressed frustration over the alliance formed with the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) in the June 24th multi-tier elections in the country.
In an audio circulated on social media Laj-K, spoke about the challenges faced by NGC within the current alliance framework and stressed the need for decisive and unified action, moving forward.
He explained that the party has not benefited from the signed alliance. He claimed they campaigned in the four regions of the country, spent their resources, and risked their lives for the alliance to win the elections, only for them at NGC to be given what he called “cold shoulders.”
Tarawallie stated that he bought over 50 phones to make sure that the executives in the different regions were able to communicate with them. He said that they have made appointments on several occasions to see the President and the party leadership but to no avail.
He added that what frustrates him more is the fact that SLPP does not even recognize that they are in an alliance and that the NGC members are only imagining being in one as they never do in their public statements mention it.
Laj-K recalled that the alliance stated it very clear that the NGC members would have government ministerial positions, Ambassadorial, and Parastatal positions, but said it is not forthcoming. He boasted that before they came into the alliance, the SLPP was “completely dead in media and communication which they revived as NGC alliance members an effort which a lot of people acknowledged.”
A short notice issued by the party after the release of the audio indicated that it is essential that every NGC member grasp the gravity of the situation as outlined by the Deputy Secretary General and stand ready to support the leadership in making the right decision for the party's future.
The notice called for members’ immediate attention to “this matter which is paramount as we approach a critical juncture in our political journey.” It urged members to heed the call for unity and relentless action as they navigate these challenging times together for the greater good of the NGC and the principles it stands for.
