The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has appointed new Premier League Board (PLB) Executive for the 2022/2023 football league season.
In a release issued out on 8th August, 2022, it stated that the football governing body in the country has again reappointed Lawyer Alieu Vandi as Chairman of the Board. He was the Chairman of the past PLB for the 2021/2022 premiere league season which ended successfully as Bo Rangers were crowned Champions.
The former Managing Director of the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank who is currently the Deputy Minister II in the Ministry of Finance, Bockarie Kalokoh has also been appointed as member of the PLB.
Abdul Karim Kargbo (AKK) and Joshua Mohamed Deen are also board members.
Three (3) representatives were appointed from three (3) football Clubs in Santos Sesay from Mount Aureol SLIFA, Augustine Kambo from Central Parade and Abu Bakarr Bangura from Bo Rangers.
However, there are challenges faced by the previous PLB that should be paid keen attention to by this current executive. Prominent amongst them are the bad football pitches around the country that needed upgrading before the start of the league season.
The previous league was also noted for some bad officiating and match officials not dressing up properly for football matches. Some match officials who were spotted wearing gears of European clubs. The previous league season saw a football match having only two (2) match balls, which did not represent any standard league. The Confederation of African Football Association (CAF) protocol says that there should be at least a minimum of ten (10) match balls per any standard league match.
The match ball issue should be addressed before the commencement of the 2022/2023 league season.
Also, a well-structured players and appeals committee should be functional this time around.
Football loving fans have also expressed concerns as to why SLFA has not included a female to be part of the PLB.
