Sierra Leone, Nigeria groups mark Democracy Day

Centre for the Coordination of Youth Activities, CCYA Sierra Leone has partnered with the Centre for Democracy and Development, CDD in Nigeria to launch a “popularization campaign on two regional documents” to commemorate the International Day of Democracy.
Executive director of CCYA, Ngolo Katta said that “The African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance” and “The ECOWAS Protocol on Democracy and Governance,” had been ratified by the country and therefore needed to be popularized by the media and civil society.
Man sent to high court for “rape”

Magistrate Alford Fidawi in Pujehun has committed to high court the case of an alleged sexual penetration involving a 31-year-old man.
According to the prosecution, the accused on the 8 March this year sexually abused a two-year old girl.
Magistrate Fidawi said that after looking at the evidence he had no powers to pass a verdict on the said matter. He described the alleged abuse on the girl as an unnecessary assault and granted bail to the accused in the sum of Le 10 million and one surety in like sum.
ACC meets public on bribery

The circuit superintendent of the Ebenezer Methodist Church, Wilberforce branch says "instilling moral values in school-going children" and embarking on civic education will reduce the act of bribery and corruption in Sierra Leone.
Rev. Arnold Archer Campbell made this comment at a symposium organised by the Anti-Corruption Commission at the Miata Conference Centre in Freetown with the object of discussing ways to reducing bribery in the country.
Six killed in Kailahun mine

Six people are reported to have died in a dangerous illicit mining being done in Njama and Suluma villages in the Penguya Chiefdom, Kailahun District, eastern Sierra Leone.
Police superintendent for Area III Kenema Mines Division, Samuel Foday Lahai, told Politico that a huge soil collapsed as a result of the underground mining and fell on and killed the miners on separate occasions between July and August.
