Opposition Member of Parliament, Dixon Rogers, has called for the resignation of newly appointed minister of information whom he accused of lying under oath in parliament, in complete breach of basic standards for probity.

Under the 1991 Constitution a minister or a deputy minister “shall not enter upon the duties of his office unless he has taken and subscribed the oath for the due execution of his duties as set out in the Third Schedule”.

An attempt to install an interim students’ union body at the Fourah Bay College, FBC, on Monday failed after the college administration made a U-Turn, prompting students to walk out in protest.

For about three years FBC has not had a student union, after the last one was annulled in 2012. The college, which is part of the University of Sierra Leone, had accused the students of causing trouble through their union activism.

Officials of Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security Monday appeared before the Public Accounts Committee, PAC, to explain about a missing Le1.6 billion.

The Committee is probing the ministry in line with the 2014 Audit report which indicated that over Le1billion was not adequately accounted for.

Some residents in the Southern district of Pujehun have expressed concerns over ‘constraints in accessing safe drinking water’ in their various localities.

The lack of safe drinking water has been a perennial problem in Pujehun town and other parts of the district.

The crisis has particularly affected chiefdoms like Kpaka, Galliness Perri, Sorogbeima, Mano Sakrim, YKK, and Kpanga Kabondeh.

The opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party, SLPP, has called on the National Electoral Commission (NEC) not to use the provisional results of the 2015 Population and Housing Census to conduct the much anticipated boundary delimitation exercise.

SLPP wants figures from the 2004 census to be used while something is done about the latest census results which it has rejected, citing irregularities and claiming that the result was of a bias process.
