Mercury boost Sierra Leone Super league

Sport-betting company, Mercury International over the weekend donated Le 90 million towards the ongoing Super League organized by ten Premier League clubs.

Samir Hassanyeh, Chairman of Mercury Charity Foundation told the league organizers that his company wanted to see football grow especially when it involved the elite clubs in the country. He said “the premier league is yet to start and I see this initiative as a good venture for these clubs to come together and to play football”.

Soccer Promoters to start community league

Twenty-four communities are set to take part in the Soccer Promoters organization, annual inter community league starting on the 1st of June 2013.

Speaking to Politico Sports the chairman of Soccer Promoters, Harouna Newland disclosed that this year’s competition would be different as all modalities were already in place, and that the coveted prize was a BMW car worth Le 20 million, whilst the runner-up will take away a bicycle.

10-day course for Sierra Leone swimmers

The Sierra Leone Swimming Association (SLSA) has started a ten-day training course for swimmers in Freetown and the provinces which started on 19 May and will end on 28 May 2013.

The course expert, Mario Franchi who is also head coach of the Italian Swimming Association said that he was happy to be in Sierra Leone for the first time to train swimmers, noting that during the course swimmers would learn a lot especially about the basic skills of swimming and other important aspects involved of the sport.

IOC may ban Sierra Leone

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) may ban Sierra Leone if the suspension of the country’s National Olympic Committee (NOC) by the Minister of Sport Paul Kamara is allowed to stand, according to the Administrative Secretary of the NOC, Alie G. Koroma.

Koroma says the new executive successfully held their first meeting and wrote to the IOC informing them about the result of the just-concluded elections.

Sierra Leone U-19 cricket prepares for Kenya

The national U-19 cricket team has commenced training at the Kingtom Oval for their participation in the upcoming U-19 cricket world cup championship schedule to take place in August, in Kenya, Nairobi.

According to the Francis Trevor Samura, president of the Sierra Leone cricket Association (SLCA) he said that he is happy with the progress of the training and that his players seem determined to fly the country’s flag high in Kenya.

FAFA grand final: Med Mans lock horns with Ibrahim FC

The grand final of the Fourahbay AmateurFootball Association (FAFA) none division league is scheduled to take place on Sunday 12th May 2013 at the Fourahbay field, with Med Mans FC locking horns with Ibrahim FC in the grand finale.

Med Mans sailed through to the final by defeating the tournament’sfavourite Pizzo FC by 1-0 in semi-finals, while Ibrahim FC also defeated Bonka FC by 1-0, to reach the finals.
