Sierra Leone female football squad brace up for WAFU tournament on home soil

Sierra Leone Female national team, Sierra Queens, are wrapping the final phase of their preparation ahead of the West African Football Union (WAFU) tournament.

The competition will be hosted in Sierra Leone for the first time.

Zone B, where Sierra Leone falls, will be organizing this competition for the very first time.

Head Coach of East End Lions Football Club, John Keister, has said he is not under pressure despite his team’s slow start to the season. Keister’s remark comes after his team’s sixth draw of the season.

“This season and last season will not be the same. Last season was a surprise, we went unbeaten. We were lucky, there were games that we could have lost, but we won them,” he said.

On Sunday evening, Lions drew 0-0 with FC Johansen, his former team.

Standoff in Sierra Leone Football Association: Aggrieved members call for FIFA’s intervention

Some members of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) have called on the world football governing body, FIFA to intervene in the standoff within their association.

Their call comes following a congress that was held by the SLFA in Kenema. The congress was meant to discuss and ratify the association’s budget and set up committees that would lead the association in to an elective congress this April.

Former athlete launches bid to lead Athletics Association in Sierra Leone

A former athlete, Martin Momoh Bangura, has announced his bid to run for the Presidency of the Sierra Leone Athletics Association (SLAA).

He announced his bid-on Saturday in a packed hall with athletes and coaches.

Bangura’s bid comes amidst concerns that the current president, Alhaji Abdul Karim Sesay, is planning to run for a third term, which is “illegal” in the constitution of the association.

“I am standing here because of the injustice in our association,” Bangura said.

Kamboi Eagles to regroup after first defeat

Kamboi Eagles coach, Alhaji Foray, has said his team would get back to the drawing board and analyze their way forward after their defeat on Wednesday.

Their seven match unbeaten run was ended by FC Johansen after Melvin Davies’ 4th minute goal at the National Stadium.

Eagles had not even conceded a goal through out the season before Davies scored against them.

SLFA invites 43 players to train for Nigeria clash

The Technical Team of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has on Wednesday published the names of 43 players to start training ahead of the Nigeria game.

Leone Stars of Sierra Leone will face the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Freetown on the 23rd of March, in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.

The second leg of the fixture will then be played in Nigeria a week later.

The fixture was originally scheduled to be played in September this year.
