Boxers brace up for professional bout

The Sierra Leone Boxing Association (SLBA) is in preparation for its forthcoming professional boxing championship for elite fighters across the country which is scheduled to commence on 31 January 2014 at the national stadium boxing arena.

Boxers are expected to fight in six weight categories, 64kg welter weight, full welter 69kg, middle welter 75kg, and 81kg weight category. The competition will also introduce women boxing in the 56kg and 60kg as well.

Fred Claye boosts COFA

The Chief Executive Officer of Sheffield United Sierra Leone, presented the championship trophy to the Central One Football Association  (COFA) over the weekend.

Fred Claye told his audience, "I had decided to quit football due to the problems surrounding the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) in a bid to effect a change, nevertheless, I was inspired by the accolade given to me as SWASAL’s Sport’s Personality of the Year which injected a new blood into my vein".

Danish FAN-SL helps Kroobay Community

Danish - Fan Sierra Leone has donated Hummel-branded football materials to the Kroobay Community including 80 pairs of Hummel’s jerseys, 75 footballs, and 80 pairs of football boots.

According to the president of the organisation, Eric Rasmussen, the association will continue to support the Kroobay Community with whatever little they have, acknowledging that the community people are in control of the various clubs which includes both male and female categories respectively.

"My Country’s Flag must fly high" - Rashid Conteh

Rashid Conteh a Sierra Leonean who plays American Football for the University of Maryland in the United States of America has told Politico that he will fly his country’s flag high in his sports.

“I will make sure that I reach the peak so that my country will be proud of me’’, he said. Conteh said he has played for the University for three years as a defender.

OCTEA Man is PLB Chairman

The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has appointed Ibrahim Sorie Kamara as the new chairman of the Premier League Board.

The announcement was made by the president of SLFA Isha Johansen, at a news conference in Freetown on Wednesday 15 January. She said "we made no mistake in appointing him as chairman, he is a man that has an in-depth knowledge in football administration and his credibility is well maintained in the country”.

No secrecy at SLFA

The Acting General Secretary of the Sierra Leone football Association (SLFA) Abdul Rahman Swarray has said that his administration "is not running a secret society" but information’s leaks from the secretariat are "manipulated to suit the convenience of people who want to market it".

Derrick Boison takes over Diamond Star

Derrick Boison has been appointed head coach of Premier League champions Diamond Stars.

Speaking to this press Boison said he was very happy to "wholeheartedly accepted the job". And he was  "ready to face the challenges that lie ahead which I will overcome by the grace of God ’’.

He said his first task is to qualify the team to next stage of the CAF competition and then defend the title when the league commences.
