THE GREAT Ebola LOCKDOWN: BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER

Sierra Leone will be locked down for three days - 19th - 21st September. De Pa's government started off by denying there would be any lock down. In fact last Saturday, 24 hours after the whole world was reporting the proposed lockdown, the so-called national broadcaster, SLBC under the headship of Orman still had an item in the radio news, quoting the deputy minister of information as saying "government had no intention of doing a lockdown", so much for news writing in a 21st century world.

New Vehicles for Ministers But No Ambulance in Hospitals

We're just wondering if all ministers have turned in their new super vehicles to contact tracers who are on the frontline in this war against Ebola. We are also wondering how we arrived at the decision to buy such new and expensive vehicles for ministers when, as we now know, there were only a few ambulances serving a few health facilities throughout this country. Haven't we just bought some ambulances? Please don't be angry with us, we are just thinking and talking like ordinary citizens.

NON-Ebola DEATHS ARE NOW A REAL CAUSE FOR CONCERN

We know these are desperate times in Sierra Leone. In the last five months, we have lost to Ebola more than 300 of our compatriots, including highly skilled medical doctors and other health workers. When we first heard about the disease in DR Congo, it sounded very distant - a world away from peaceful Sierra Leone. Now several months into an Ebola attack, we have no idea what's happening. We are just praying and waiting for God to act against Ebola.

It's very crazy to attempt to compare Great Britain to Sierra Leone in terms of anything but we must be excused for admiring how much the government and people in countries like Great Britain care for each other. And also the extent to which they go to secure the lives of every citizen of that country. We feel absolutely jealous that we have never had it so good in this country.

WHERE IS THE MEDICAL AND DENTAL ASSOCIATION AS WE FIGHT EBOLA?

We want to encourage ourselves to think that all hands are on deck in this fight against the killer disease, Ebola. But deep inside, we know that a very important hand is either missing or is not fully inside the struggle. We mean the SLMDA - the people trained to save lives. Where are they?

EBOLA MONEY WAHALA ROCKS YOUTH SECTOR: 300 MILLION LEONES, RIGHT?

One of the most distasteful things to happen in recent times was the story we heard on Radio Democracy on Monday morning. A real tug of war between the Ministry of Youth and the National Youth Commission over who gets to spend Le 300 million allocated for so-called "sensitisation" on Ebola . This was a real low, even by Sierra Leonean standards.
