"NETWORKS OF GOODWILL" vs. "NETWORKS OF LAWLESSNESS"

It's 18 months since De Pa declared at a big State House set-piece event that he would "dismantle Networks of Lawlessness" and promote "Networks of Goodwill". When the most powerful man in the country said that with the passion and seriousness we saw on that day, many were convinced that at least De Pa's fingers were definitely on the pulse of the nation. We can however now say that, in fact, the "Networks of Lawlessness" have become more powerful since. May be he shouldn't have made that speech after all.

SLBC BOSS WEEPS FOR CASH BUT WHO CARES

The Poet of SLBC has been crying all over the place recently, begging for money to run his moribund organisation. We don't think anybody is taking notice of such melodramatic poetry-reading. However, we have the following practical solutions to what we believe are existential problems facing the corporation:

1. The Poet must rationalise his staff. This is the only organisation in the world that paid off and then promptly re-employed the same excess baggage to do sweet nothing.

ARROGANT MIATTA CANNOT BEAT EBOLA

Beleaguered Miatta Kargbo needs some lessons in how to make media appearances. Her last performance on 98.1 breakfast radio was an absolute disaster. Her officials will not tell her that; even her cabinet colleagues including the one she has strong human connections with, will also refrain from telling her the truth. In fact some will congratulate her. But, boy! that was a disaster. We have nothing to lose with Miatta hating what we write. So we can speak without having to look over our shoulders.

LET'S CELEBRATE AFRICAN UNITY DAY BUT LET'S ASK THE REAL QUESTIONS

There is definitely something to celebrate about the African Union project started as far back as 1963. Today the whole of Arica has been liberated from colonial rule. We can argue about the degree of independence but at least we take some decisions at home without necessarily asking the consent of the big boys in the west.

20TH MAY, 2014, "SADDEST DAY FOR THE LEGAL PROFESSION, SAYS FRANK KARGBO". WE ASK: "REALLY?"

What did Attorney General Frank Kargbo really mean when he described Tuesday 20th May as the "saddest day for the legal profession" in Sierra Leone in his reply to Ibrahim Tommy's attack on the government's failure to respect the human rights of 14 soldiers now being tried for alleged mutiny at a court martial in Freetown?
