Member of Parliament for Constituency 105 in Freetown, Ibrahim Kamara at the weekend launched a step construction project at Owen Street in Mountain Cut, to provide a badly-needed shortcut connecting parts of central Freetown to each other. According to the MP the project is aimed at thanking his constituents for voting him in, as the road, he said, was becoming very dangerous to commuters. He said it was a burning desire for him especially because older people and traders use the road and find it difficult to terrain. He said the road had also become difficult for funeral corteges to make it through, and stressed that money used to start the project was not given by government. “The funds used at this initial phase of the project are my personal resources,” he told Politico, emphasising that he had committed himself to it since he was growing up. Kamara said that it was the first of a three-phased approach to the construction and called on especially the youth in the area to be participatory and vigilant in particularly to serve as guards to protect the construction materials. The councilor of Ward 373, Abdul Karim Samura said that he was working hand-in-hand with the MP “to bring more development to the constituency”.
