Sierra Leone advances open contracting in Africa

Sierra Leone joined 15 other African nations last week at a high-level Open Government Partnership conference in Rabat, Morocco, showcasing the country's progress in transparent public procurement and positioning itself as a continental model for anti-corruption reform.

The three-day gathering, held from May 5 to 7 under the theme: "Towards an Open Africa," was organised by Morocco's Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform in collaboration with the Open Government Partnership (OGP).

My colleagues at the office and I were having a privileged conversation relating to sexual abuse, and whilst on the topic, three amongst the men in room revealed that they were sexually abused at a tender. One of them explained that his first sexual encounter was with an older woman, saying at that age he had no clue that he was being molested.

Kamakwie residents demand medical doctors

Residents in the Karena District `headquarter town of Kamakwie, have called on the government to dispatch at least two medical doctors to the northwestern district.

The call came during a two-day government Town Hall engagement held in Kamakwie during which residents were encouraged to express concerns and pose questions to government officials about issues affecting them. The event was held on Tuesday 14 April and attended by local authorities and the public.

Sierra Leone raises health alarm over plastic waste

Officials of the Government of Sierra Leone have expressed grave concern over the direct environmental and health threats posed by plastic waste to the life and livelihoods of Sierra Leoneans, including marine life.

The Senior Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Judith C. Jones, who represented the minister of tourism, said that plastic waste is not just an environmental hazard but a direct threat to Sierra Leone’s beaches – one of the nation’s most valuable tourism assets.

Develop Africa, Freetown City Council and GEED Foundation Deliver 100,000 Pencils to 10,000 Pupils in Sierra Leone

The Year of the Pencil campaign has equipped young learners with essential tools to support early-grade education across Freetown, Sierra Leone.

In a press release from Develop Africa, the Foundation collaborated with the Freetown City Council and the GEED Foundation, to crown the 2025 Year of the Pencil campaign by distributing 100,000 pencils, 10,000 pouches and 10,000 sharpeners to 10,000 pupils across 20 primary schools in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone gets second Cardiologist
