Sierra Leone Under 20 clash with Senegal today

Players of Sierra Leone’s national Under 20 Football side have landed in Senegal ahead of their Group A, West Africa Football Union Zone A game against Senegal which will be played today at the Stade Lart Dior De Thies, Dakar. Kick-off is at 4pm.

The 40 man contingent who left Freetown yesterday comprised twenty players, nine Technical team members, four Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) officials and seven government officials, according to a press release from the FA.

Various clubs in the top European leagues traded players in this summer transfer window; parting company with those not in their plans or recruiting footballers that they expect would improve team performance. The official European transfer window closed on Monday 5th October though in England clubs in the Premier League can still do business with teams in the English Football League until Friday 16th October. 

Sierra Leone FA members demand action on elections

Members of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) have called on the Electoral Committee of the association to start preparations for FA’s forthcoming elections for different executive positions.  The calls come amidst five months of delay from the initial date set for the elections.

In a letter signed by a cross section of the association’s membership they also demanded that executive members of the FA be totally removed from the electoral process to ensure the integrity of the election is kept.

Sierra Leone coach calls up 13 foreign-based players for national football squad

Leones Stars head coach, John Keister has called up 13 foreign based players to join the squad ahead of the Mauritania friendly next month. The names of the players were announced on the Sierra Leone Football Association’s Facebook page over the weekend.

The 13 players include Queens Park Rangers Defender Osman Kakay, who recently signed a contract extension with the English side.

Sierra Leone clears national teams to start training

The National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Ministry of Sports have given permission to national teams to resume training in preparation of forthcoming competitions. A press statement from NSA on Friday ended the almost five-month long ban that was put in place to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

NSA said they lifted the ban based on the advice of the National COVID-19 Emergency Response Center (NACOVERC).

Despite lifting the ban, they cautioned sporting disciplines to follow strict health protocols.
