A postmortem on Sierra Leone FA December Congress

Here we are, finally! The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) is about to hold an ordinary congress, for the first time in four years. The venue is Port Loko, no doubt a stronghold of the Isha Johansen administration.

Like this, the next two congresses will also be held in Johansen strongholds - Kenema and Bombali districts. The venues and scheduling of these congresses is all part of an end game; to win a fresh mandate for the SLFA Presidency.

Sierra Leone FA add four more teams to Premier League

Members of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) have unanimously agreed to add four more spots to the country’s top tier league. The agreement was reached at an Ordinary Congress in the Northern city of Port Loko on Saturday.

This means from next season 18 teams would play the Sierra Leone Premier League.

Football stakeholders have expressed their satisfaction on the successful conclusion of the Ordinary Congress of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) that was held in Port Loko on Saturday. This is the first successful congress that the Isha Johansen administration has held since it was elected over six years ago.

The Head Coach of FC Kallon, Amidu Karim has said that the team will build their title challenge on the back of their latest success in the Challenge Cup. Karim told Politico shortly after beating East End Lions 1-0 to win the first edition of the Challenge Cup on Sunday.

That encounter at the National Stadium was the curtain raiser for the new Premier League season in Sierra Leone. East End Lions, the league champions, came into this game as heavy favorites after beating FC Kallon twice last season.

Sierra Leone Premier League Board signs marketing deal with Orange

The Premier League Board (PLB) has signed a deal with the telecommunication giant Orange SL. The deal entails that the operator supports the Sierra Leone Premier League with advertising and marketing.

Chairman of the PLB, Alie Vandy Koroma, confirmed the deal with Politico on Wednesday afternoon, shortly after the agreement was signed.

As part of the deal, Orange will support the league with media platforms, reports on the league via SMS and other value additional services.

Sierra Leone Premier League season starts today - a Preview

Let the games begin!

The Sierra Leone Premier League returns today after a five months break. From 4:30pm, games will play in the East, South and Western area of the country. Today, six of the 14 teams will get back to playing and fighting each other for the next six months.

FC Johansen, Mighty Blackpool, Freetown City FC, Bo Rangers, Diamond Stars, Kamboi Eagles and Anti-Drugs are all in action.

So, brace up for 364 games full of pure excitement, drama and adrenaline rush. It doesn’t get better than this.
