Sport Commentary: The faded glory of Italian football

From 1991 to 2000 Seria A had the highest UEFA coefficient. This was so because the league was competitive and exciting.

During the heyday of Italian football, every year there were seven sides that routinely challenged for the Scudetto (League Title). These seven sides were Inter Milan, AC Milan, Juventus, Parma, AS Roma, Lazio and Fiorentina; they were known as ‘ Le Sette Sorelle’, meaning ‘ The Seven Sisters’.

43 Communities prepare for Inter Community League

The Central One Football Association COFA Inter-community League has been slated for January 17.

The tournament, which began in 2001, is an annual event which attracts a large number of participation from communities within the western area. It is by far Sierra Leone`s most watched local league.

It initially started with sixteen communities were as those communities were drawn within central and western Freetown. But now teams come from as far as Waterloo and surroundings.

Scrabble, latest sporting discipline in Sierra Leone

Scrabble has been officially added to the sporting disciplines in Sierra Leone, the Ministry of Sports has said.

The development comes after the National Scrabble Association of Sierra Leone (NSASL) officially becomes the 32nd Sporting association to register with the Sports Council of Sierra Leone last month.

At COFA non-division league…Faulty start for Defending Champion

Defending Champions of the non-division league at the Parade Ground in Central Freetown have lost to Tank FC who were eliminated in the group stage of the 2013/14 league season.

Malcolm Football Cub, who defeated four teams in the last season to emerge as champions, were beaten by 1 goal to 0 in the opening match of the 2015 league that has just commenced last week in Freetown.

SWASAL Create partnership with SLVA

The Sports Writers Associations of Sierra Leone (SWASAL) has announced a partnership with the Sierra Leone Volleyball Association, in line with its objectives to give equal opportunities to all sporting disciplines in terms of adequate coverage, both locally and internationally.

Run 4 A Reason Marathon set for September

The Run 4 A Reason marathon, which will be organized by One Management (OM) in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Athletics Association (SLAA), has been set for 27 September 2015 in Freetown.

Production and Marketing Executive of OM, Randa Alieyaa Sheriff, said that the purpose of setting up the run is for athletes to show case their talent in running long distance races and to prepare themselves for future international competitions.

Foulah Town engages Leister City Today

Foulah Town will today take on Leicester City as part of the Central One Football Association gala, which commenced over the weekend.

Team manager of Foulah Town Community, Alpha Rashid, said that the gala will serve as training for his players ahead of the inter-community competitions proper.

“My community team has proven well in several competitions in the country and we want to continue with the same trend in this gala competition, we have the required players and we are sure of securing victory in today’s match’’ he bluffed.
