ARMED ROBBERS GETTING INCREASINGLY BOLD

We want the SLP to know that we are following closely how they are handling the recent armed robbery in Kenema in which somebody was killed. There is always this tendency for them to tell people that they were busy investigating a case and for that investigation to roll on and on with no result and for all of us to either forget or give up. To be fair, no police force solves all crimes but the rate at which cases of this nature go cold in Sierra Leone, is becoming alarming and that’s UNACCEPTABLE.

TAKE HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS OFF JUI-REGENT ROAD

When the Chinese contractors completed work on the Jui-Regent road in 2014, very bold signposts were erected along the route prohibiting the use of the road by trucks weighing more than 10 tons or vehicles carrying sand, wood and stones. Trailer trucks and heavy machinery must be kept off, so it was sanctioned to be.

All those trucks banned from that busy route linking east and west Freetown are not complying with the regulations anymore.

ANOTHER FINE WASTE OF OUR TAXES INSIDE YOUYI BUILDING

We recently called attention to a number of expensive vehicles parked in a little corner of Youyi building in the area opposite Chicken Town. Those vehicles have been there for at least FOUR years, apparently for repairs. We cannot be too certain about this but from what we can see in that place, those vehicles have been cannibalized over the period and the only thing the government should do now is to sell them off and end the disgrace.

It’s that time of the year again – rain, thunderstorm, flash floods and human suffering. This is now a familiar theme. We love the rain and we thank God that we get a lot of it while our brothers and sisters in other parts of our continent are facing drought. So let’s spare a thought for people in Somalia, Ethiopia and Chad for example.

DO WE HAVE POLICE CHECKPOINTS OR EXTORTION POINTS?

It’s common knowledge that police officers, particularly those at checkpoints on the highways leading to provincial cities collect petty bribes daily. We have to be clear about that from the outset. It’s not because the big guys at headquarters have not tried to do something about it. They have mostly issued ridiculous threats of suspension and dismissal so we are sad to report that illegal collections continue and ordinary people are complaining.

BO RANGERS FINED NLe 60,000 FOR FA CUP FIASCO. REALLY?

We always knew that fines were going to be levied for the crowd trouble that brought the FA Cup final match between Bo Rangers and EE Lions to a premature end just over a week ago but for the SLFA to fine Bo Ranger SIXTY THOUSAND NEW LEONES plus a few more thousands for the behavior of their fans is as crazy as it is unacceptable. How did they arrive at that figure?
