Western Area inter-club volleyball in progress

The Western Area Inter Club Volleyball championship is still in progress at different venues in Freetown.

Seven teams are participating in the competition.

According to the organisers, the idea behind this competition is to select a team to represent the Western Area at the inter-regional volleyball competition scheduled to take place in Kono.

According to a player, Florence Amara, the decision to organize such a competition will help them prepare for international assignments.          

EBK trophy...FC Mamoud and Suba FC in Finals

FC Mamoud of Freetown and Suba Football Club of Makeni will battle it out in the final of the Ernest Bai Koroma trophy at Wusum Stadium in Makeni on Christmas eve.

Head Coach of Mamoud FC said their route to the final was a tough one because "most of the female teams in the competition are very good". He said his players performed well in their qualification matches. Mamoud Kamara told Politico that " I am happy we have reached the finals and I hope to win the trophy".

COFA Second Rounds…Foulah Town battle Belgium Sellers

Second round matches in the Central One football Association COFA begin in a week's time with defending champions Belgium Sellers opening their campaign against 2009 Champions Foulah Town.

Foulah Town team manager, Alpha Rashid told Politico he is confident of "eliminating Belgium Sellers and proceeding to win the trophy for the second time in the history of the Foulah town community."

He boasted about having the players to take on Belgium Sellers and win.

Mercury doles out $ 85,000 to Craig Bellamy Foundation

The sport-betting company Mercury International has pledged $ 85, 000 in sponsorship money for the  Craig Bellamy Foundation Youth Development League due to run from the 12th January to June 2014.

Addressing a news conference at the company’s headquarters at in Freetown, the chairman of Mercury International's Charity Foundation Samir Yassaniyeh said his charity is "very excited to be in partnership with CBF in organizing  a national league for under 12 and 14 boys and girls.

Kroobay final up for a replay

The final of the Kroobay Football Association KBFA will be replayed after the first encounter between FC Kallon Jr. and Success FC at the weekend ended in deadlock.

The organisers of the non-division league ordered a replay due to "poor lighting" as both teams were tied 8-8 after post game penalties.

Mountain City fights for qualification

Mountain City will lock horns with Adonkia Community today in their final group H match at the Parade grounds. Mountain City have secured seven points from their last three matches.

According to Charlie Wright head coach of Mountain City, they are poised to qualify as group leaders in Group H. Wright said "I want to be on top of Group H so that I will avoid big names in the second round".

He said his players are always committed to any match they are playing and "I believe we will take all three points in today’s match".
