WIMSAL: WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE

The organization, Women in the Media-Sierra Leone (WIMSAL) has just come through one of the most difficult elections in its short history. The campaigning was bitter – people who were normally good friends found themselves on different sides of the political fence, some of the campaign rhetoric was not so friendly, and there were allegations of outside interference and all of that.

AT LAST OUR MAYOR OF THE SUN TO STOP FREE FLOWING FEACES IN FREETOWN

The Mayor of the Sun has finally indicated her willingness to clear raw sewage from the major streets of our capital after trying to ignore us for weeks on the issue. When we saw the press release we asked ourselves why it has to take several weeks of complaining by Freetown residents and our targeted reporting, for the Mayor of the Sun to issue a press release promising to clear up the mess.

THEY KNOW IT IS LASSA FEVER BUT THEY PREFER TO CALL IT EBOLA-LIKE DISEASE

Sections of the Western media are up to their tricks once again in terms of how they have started reporting the few cases of Lassa fever in Tonkolili district. We are very sorry about the death of the doctor who traveled so far from his homeland in the Netherlands to heal people in this country. Our hearts go out to his family and friends. We also join the many Sierra Leoneans praying for his colleagues who are undergoing treatment after being exposed to Lassa fever.

The recent decision by the Senior Prefect to forward to the police a text message sent to him by a journalist crosschecking a story has left us thinking and rethinking. Do you remember the Basharia Mosque incident where Kothor Juldeh was foolishly embarrassed by some pretending Muslims – we say pretending because true Muslims don’t behave in such an ungodly way?

THE COMING OF THE CABLE CAR: LONG LIVE THE MAYOR OF THE SUN

Last week ended with some very optimistic noises from the office of the Mayor of the Sun. We heard that our Mayor was having conversations with some people outside Sierra Leone to find a way to defeat the impossible rush hour traffic in Freetown. The Mayor of the SUN is actively thinking about introducing Cable Cars here. We even saw very social media photos of our Mayor possibly having a cup of tea with those interested parties somewhere in the world.
